iControlpad for iPhone/iPod Touch
Supposed to be out very, very soon.
Totally looking forward to this, as I have no handheld gaming console as of now. I'll probably go with this instead of the Pandora, as they've delayed that thing to hell and back.
Regardless, this will be so awesome, especially with the upcoming Quake port with netplay.

Looks nice, but doesn't change my mind from Pandora. Although, I don't already have an iPod touch/iPhone, and have no interest in one (my three year old iPod mini can still play music just fine). Pandora strikes me as having more potential, and the idea of a full keyboard is very appealing to me. Also, SD cards are nice to use instead of internal memory. A 16GB card can be bought on newegg for about $50, and expandability is nice. USB host is useful for the same reason. The screen is also way higher resolution (800x480 vs 480x360), which makes watching movies a lot nicer. Helps a ton with web browsing too.
Even with this, the iPod touch isn't nearly as appealing to me as a Pandora, but that's just my opinion.

With the huge span of homebrew devs for iPhone, the only real advantage Pandora has that I can see is the raw power of the device itself. Sure, the Pandora can do everything that my iPod Touch can do, but the Touch does it so much... smaller. The Pandora is just too damn chunky to be my all-in-one device. I'll buy it someday strictly as a gaming device, but shelling out $330 plus whatever a couple 16 gig SD cards may be a bit much for me at launch. I dunno, I may change my mind, but it's like I said to John (triton) earlier: $25 > $330
As far as web browsing goes, it'll be good on the Pandora no doubt, but it won't be as good as the iPod Touch's, I don't think. Again, Pandora may win my heart back before it launches (sometime next year, from the looks of it), but a system with out an OS, let alone a GUI, can hardly speak for itself at this point.

I think it's rather amusing that a company wants to mass produce something that in practice has been proven. We all know about the whole iPod NES controller/cradle which someone used to play Doom on their iPod modded with Linux.
Hell I'll bet money that something just like that could be build by people who attend these forums. In a hotel bathroom no less, lol.

It's not Apple who's really trying to pursue it, it's homebrewers, and it's having a great deal of success. Even now, though, with the release of the App Store in firmware 2.0, they've come out with some immensely popular games like Crash Team Racing and Monkey Ball. I'm not saying Apple should enter the gaming market with consoles or that I'd like them to succeed in doing so (trust me, I don't) but you have to give them credit where it's due; they've found a niche and exploited it, and there's absolutely no evidence of a "divebomb" any time soon.NixonTech2071 wrote:Apple is never going to find success in the gaming community again, especially if original titles ever come out, it's obvious that the download format is going to take a divebomb in the grave for the millionth time...
