Alright guys I've got situation on my hands. I have a lot of money saved up and I know what II want to buy. But its definitely a tough decision though. Here I'll explain. I saw the capabilities of a modded original Xbox and all of the ROMS it can play. But on the other hand, I could go more nostalgic and just buy the actual games. So heres the question. Should I just buy the 200 dollar Xbox with all of the roms on it. Or should I just shell out the money and buy the actual system? Very tough decsion I know.

P.S - Also, if I do end up going with the Xbox, would there be any way I could use like a genesis controller with it? Or would that be out of the question?

I can't advise you on which choice you should make, but about the controllers, pretty much anything is possible. You could mod an Xbox controller with a parallel port and then mod a bunch of different classic controllers to plug into that which would take over the functions of the xbox buttons. My friend did that with his Dreamcast controller to accept SNES controllers.

Are you talking about a 360 or a original xbox? I got a broken one (my fault) for around $30 which I'm in the process of fixing up and another one for free that I have up and running with XBMC. The point is, you can find original xboxs' for near to nothing and fix one up for under $100 (softmoded or hardmoded).

From what I understand, the XBox is an underpowered computer with games on it. I believe there ought to be some way to adapt your classic controllers to USB/XBox and get drivers. I'm not sure, though.

Modded xbox + XBMC alone are worth it. I haven't tried any emulators on it, but it makes a great media center (unless you already have a better solution). I softmodded my 2 xboxes a few days ago and they're awesome. I've ripped some of our DVDs to our desktop and I can browse and play them from the xbox at 1080i (unfortunately, the build of XBMC I have seems to have a problem playing DVDs from the drive).

Pandora, duh.

Anyways, between those two, the Xbox hands down. I used mine as an HD media center for the longest time, and the emulation aspects of it are boundless. Plus, the Xbox had some good titles like Halo, Halo 2, um... Halo 2.

Get the Xbox, it makes a good media centre (although it will struggle on 1080 video). Not to mention it has loaddddds of emulators.

Let's just say that I like original hardware, but I also have a modded psp, xbox, wii, and dreamcast (not really modded but I have the emulator disks) and truthfully I like having a huge selection... but I would go with an xbox if you want more versatility.

I recommend either getting a decent graphics card with a TV-Out port, or a cable if you already have one and hooking your PC up that way if you're just going to run emulators. You could even set up a dedicated box if your budget allows. (Then again I'm weird like that.

There's a PC port of XBMC, and GameEx is a great emulator frontend.

But given the choice between original consoles or Xbox, think about what's more important: the nostalgia of having the original systems, or the convenience of having hundreds of titles in one unit.

$200 is a lot for an original Xbox, isn't it?

Hmmm the only problem with that is computer is on the other side of the room. If I could possibly get that to work that wouldnt be a bad idea! =D

Oh and its only 200 dollars because he but an 80 gig hard drive in it and theres like over 3,000 games on it.
