Okay, this is seriously annoying me now. I cant imaging what the mods are going through, but this forum is a noob magnet.
I believe that most people who visit the forums are interested in the n64 as a portable.

So why is it that the sticky is made of fail?
Another problem: we can no longer tell people to search for information, because topics asking for that information are cluttering the results with topics telling noobs to search!

And, I know that bacteria will pop in here in a second and say that his topic has all the information needed, but, as you can see, it did not change anything(i blame the page count)

Anyways, I propose that we make a new sticky. Completely new. With no broken links, and basically a decent guide(a list, almost)

I am willing to make this entire topic myself, but I would atleast like a little help, as I know for a fact that a lot of our vets have information and diagrams that could be used. I'm pointing to skyone, diagram champ.

Give me some time to work on it, but first, I think we need to gather, oh, i dont know, a community zip/rar archive with the raw documents that we can use in it.

The objective here is to make a sticky that answers all questions, as I'm certain by now just about every possible question, even down to the stupid Igot2dollurcanihasprotable question has been asked and answered. And if some question is not answered within the sticky, after the topic has found the answer, it should be added.

All we need is a few good people who have information to submit, as I can only go so far.

I have made my plea known.

I appreciate your efforts to combine information into a guide free of broken links, as I'm sure many others do. Of course, a pure forum of utopia would provide such guides for every topic (console) available. Perhaps we should design said vague tutorials for every system, starting with the Nintendo 64?

I think a wiki would be the best choice, then all of the information could be there. Then links to other sites would only be needed for citation.

after looking at my idea, a wiki would probably be easier to do. Still, I like what skyone said, but we could start with a vague tutorial for each system and elaborate over time.

Can anyone set us up a wiki here on benheck?

I'm not saying this as self-publicity (not this time ) rather as a genuine offer in the spirit of community help; and as "thanks" to this forum:

I am perfectly happy for the work on my website to be cut and pasted as needed into the Wiki (all of the articles if you want); I have documented all the step-by-step procedures and issues for building an N64 portable; and nearly there for the SNES too (done without using other guides, my own work); more systems to follow. No point in re-inventing the wheel after all. I am trying, over time, to make my site "the Utopia" Skyone mentioned, or at least as close as I can make it. After finishing my SNES system I will need to take a break before doing system 3, as I will need to crack on with my entry(s) in the compo however.

Use what documentation and pics you want from my site; all I ask, and this is the important bit; is that the Wiki states at the start and end of an article that the information came from "John Grayson, aka "Bacteria"" complete with my logo and sig included too (if not my sig, then a link to my website please).

I think this is fair! If you take me up on this, please just PM me so I am aware and also know the link to the Wiki.

The main baby-step guide as you mention, for the N64, was my Nintendo 64 Advance guide (in the stickies), before that it was bits of information over many threads; however on my site I have removed the chaff and put a lot of very relevant and detailed pics, a very hand-holding guide. This is therefore considerably better than my Nintendo 64 Advance guide, on so many levels. That is the point, anotherperson - all the work is done already on my site, took me a few days worth of work to achieve; and I am perfectly happy for it to be copied and pasted into the BenHeck Wiki (and the other project guides I do) as long as I get recognition for it, as mentioned in my post.

It would be much better as a wiki.

I could probably talk about batteries if you want and a couple of notes on the dimension engineering voltage regulators if you need them. I think it would probably also be valuable to go through the old topics and find all the great guides that have been lost to time. I'd be happy to trawl the forums for information.

Didn't Ben say he would be reactivating the wiki again sometime. Perhaps he's caught up in Possomuss man 2.
