N64 Portable, but with normal N64 controllers?
I was thinking of portabilizing a N64 with my dad, he was a handyman, and can solder well enough and is very smart when it comes to electronics. I was hoping to make a N64 Portable looking like this:

Ok, you definitly will need help, and I mean the kind of help that most of us wont be able to bear giving. But, to give it to you straight: if your asking these kinds of questions, then there is no way that this will be easy at all. I reccomend you have your dad teach you basic electronics stuff before you even ask another question. In any case. You will need:
A 7.2v battery, with more that 2000 mah (batteryspace.com)
A PSONE screen (ebay.com)
An inverter to get your voltage down to 3v or 3.3v , nothing else is acceptable, even though bacteria says 3.89v! He's a liar!
(I reccomend you hire someone from here to construct you one from TI)
Basic Tools:
Dremel highly reccomended
a low wattage soldering iron, (too high can damage your electronics as well as it burns you easier)
Drill
Screwdrivers
A hot glue gun(take advice from the best, you should use much! I finnaly figured that one out.)
Epoxy/bondo/marine putty/adhesive that hardens like a rock
sandpaper
time:
Do NOT spend your time sharing your designs with us.
Do NOT spend your time waiting for us to answer your questions.
Do NOT spend your time browsing here, while procrastinating this project.
Spend your time working in your garage. I think that you will have nothing near the size of the l64. You final product will be most likely bigger than the n64, it takes serious skill to be able to make something small. In any case, If your not building a handheld, and more of a laptop, then I believe you shouldnt have opened the n64. It would have been much more practical to leave it closed, and just wire what you need to the outside ports. After all it would be much easier to construct. and wire. and use.
But dont take my advice. I've built six portable n64s, 3 portable wii's, 1 portable gamecube, 1 portable snes, and various handheld(ds, psp) mods. Its not like I would know anything at all about this stuff.

I quoted 2.89v as being the minimum voltage on the 3.3v line that the N64 works at (I ran my Nintendo 64 Advance on 2.89v). Now I use a TI card rather than a car adaptor, I tend to have this voltage between 3.2v and 3.4v.

If anyone's interested the dimension engineering regulators are accurate to 0.01 of a volt. I once tested my 3.3V regulators with a multimeter and the display stayed on 3.30V most of the time occasionaly going up or down 0.01 of a volt.
