gbc question

hey i wanna overclock a gbc but couldnt find a tut or stats online..
if any of u have done this i know the basix and principles of overclocking

i need to know which crystal to use and where to attach it.. thanks!

Thats the guide I used. I would recommend using a 14MHz crystal, it has a good balance of speed and playability.

just curious, what's the point of overclocking a gameboy?

ok. so how is overclocking different here than on another system that improves performance instead of speeding up all the actions? is something special done to speed up the system timer or is it just because the gameboy is designed?

On the Gameboy, exactly everything is clocked by the CPU clock crystal, including timers and the display. On other systems (mainly those that connect to a screen) the GPU is timed separately, (And sometimes timers as well) which means that even though the CPU is running faster, the game will still use eg the 50/60 Hz screen timer to time in-game events.

Same for me, also makes battles go faster too, less waiting. While on a trip to California a couple years ago, I played Pokemon Yellow for about 12 hours, but clocked about 20 hours in the game. So it can actually save you valuable time.

Normal electronics stores (Radio Shack should have them, as they are used in radios...) and online ones as well. Mouser is my personal suggestion if you are going to choose the online route.

I don't know how it is around your area, but here in southern california, NONE of the radio shacks have any real parts worth mentioning. I have talked to the guys working there lots of the time, and always the same story: Nope, the electronics components truck has not come in months, they are trying to phase out that part of the store". I went in to get a 555 and an op amp, and they had NEITHER! Man, radio shack is turning into a mini best buy, selling digital photo frames, and now they even sell xbox 360 games and consoles!

Yes, those crystals should work well. If you get them, are you going to do something like Neildo 64 did? (free+shipping to forum members). Not like you really need 50 of them.
