Stepping 8.4v down to 7.4-7.5v

Give it a shot if you want, but I doubt it accepts your battery's voltage if it's nature is 12v.

The Zenith board daughter board has a linear regulator; hence why the power adapters put out 12v+ .

TI PTN78000 is what you need.

The PTN78000 is a step-down switching regulator. In order that the output remains in regulation, the input voltage must exceed the output by a minimum differential voltage.
1. For PTN78000W output voltages lower than 10 V, the minimum input voltage is (V O + 2 V ) or 7 V, whichever is higher.
2. For PTN78000W output voltages equal to 10 V and higher, the minimum input voltage is (V O + 2.5 V ).

I got my batteries in the mail last night, tested out the daughter board, and it worked perfectly.
