strange rumble pack hack idea

Post by flareware »

okay, so, total noob to hardware hacks, and this is probably in the wrong form. what I want is to hack an old n64 rumble pak (a Quake Pak Plus by Pelican) into a present for my girlfriend (if you get my drift). how do I attach a battery (and perhaps a switch?) to the motor and make it rumble?

Okay, first of all wow... Image

Second of all... well, I guess I can help you out... *cough* All you really have to do is connect the batteries inside directly to the motor (or first to a switch if you want), and the motor isn't even polarity sensitive. Ignore all of the circuitry; all that does is interface the motor to the controller. The rumble motor just needs power to operate; not logic.

I'm going to go ahead and suggest you go with one of the commercially available models.

Making one out of a rumble pack is bad on a number of levels.

1. You tell your girl you spent all weekend with a soldering gun and IDE wire making something especially for her hoo-ha. Nothing says "creepy" like genitalia focused obsessiveness, and women can smell creepy like a fart in an elevator.

2. You also bear the risk of your gal thinking you're a cheap skate and that she's not worth the hard revving chrome model.

3. I've been told, finally, that if you're "doing it right" that mechanical assistance is not generally required.

good luck to ya.

Very bad idea for a gift. An actual store bought one tells her "I can't please you, but maybe this machine can". A home made one tells her " I can't please you, and I also don't care enough about you to buy a real one"

Is that really how you want to come off?

first of all, I'd like to point out that I am perfectly capable of pleasing her, its just that, I can't be around all the time, and well, I can't legally buy one. (age restrictions at spencers) so I figure something simple would be nice, and I cleared the idea with her first aswell.

would electrical tape work? I don't exactly have any way to solder at the moment..

and also, there are three wires, perhaps one for ground?

thanks for the help, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will appreciate it.

Dude.....seriously just don't......in the end it just gives the wrong message. (plus i'm sure she has her own ways to please herself.)

You "cleared" it with her? Niiiiiiiiice. I can just imagine how that conversation went.

And damn, jeroen. Too much info.

EDITED TO ADD: Wait a sec. If you aren't old enough to go to the store or buy one on-line aren't you still jailbait?

Seriously, making the case is the only difficult part all of the other technology is the same. Get an older person to buy a commercial one for you as there isn't a legal age restriction (like beer or cigarettes).
