DVD PS1 Portable player

I have a question for you guys.

Do you think I could combine a bulky, broken portable DVD player with a PlayStation One to create one machine which does both?

I have some pictures here to show you what im talking about:

Can the Dvd player accept any kind of video input?

yeah it can accept can accept phono inputs but i will need to do some rewiring because the station does aerial inputs

Also. can anyone reccomend a website for step down transformers

How's the DVD player broken??

If you want a Portable which plays PS1 games and DVD, just build a PS2 portable. The PSone's CD drive won't read DVDs and the DVD drive won't work with the PSone. So you'd need the DVD fully working to have dual function and then basically tape them together.

And one thing, I knew a guy who went by the alias of K1ll3r, any relation to him?

never knew him. im just using my 360 gamertag.

the disc refuses to spin so i plan to replace the motors and the belts with the PS1

That won't work for the reasons already stated above, the Ps1 cannot read Dvd's.

who said the ps1 will do the dvds? it will be its own circuit and there will be a switch that will allow me to interchange it

Introduction

I am creating a portable Sony PlayStationâ„¢ One so that on car journeys I will be able to play a game while my friend is watching a film on the portable DVD player. However, if my friend falls asleep I can plug in the PlayStationâ„¢ and play on the DVD players screen. There is another function which I want the PS1P to perform,but this is not nessecary. I want it to play DVDâ€™s, as part of it was a broken portable DVD player. So if my friend is watching a film on the portable DVD player, I can watch a different one on the PS1P. Of course there will be a headphone socket for the DVD player part, but the PlayStationâ„¢ part will be played through the screens built in speakers.

I hope to do this project in as little time as possible and to get it completed and working by then. Also, I will do this PS1P project in stages as it will be easier to organise things then. Each stage will have sub-stages that break each stage up into smaller, manageable tasks which will have to be completed before moving on to the next stage. I can do the sub-stages in any order I want, so long as they are all done before I move on to the next stage.

Stage 1 â€“ Design

Requirements

1. Needs to be laptop sized
2. Needs a screen
3. Needs to be under 2.5kg
4. Must be battery powered
5. Ventilation holes at the side for heat loss
6. Must have a hinged screen
7. Must have sockets for:
a. 2 memory cards
b. 2 controllers
c. Video*
d. Left Audio*
e. Right Audio*
8. Be electrically and physically safe

Optional

1. Have a hole where the game discs slot in
2. A sunk area for the controllers to go in when not being used
3. Have the controllers connected inside the machine

guess what i found!!! I found a 15" lcd monitor which reuires the same amount of amperage the PS1 needs. I think I might have to run the PS1P off the mains permanently if this carries on. So i have a question, what type of power pack do you reccomend for something that eats power?

So, you want to make two separate units?

That's the only practical solution I can think of.

As for plugging the PSX into the DVD player and use its screen when your friend isn't watching DVDs, as long as the DVD player has video inputs you just have to leave the AV Out jack on the Playstation.

Sony already made a Playstation / DVD player combo unit. They called it the Playstation 2.

The original Playstation (PSone included) cannot play DVDs. The Playstation and DVD disc drives are not interchangeable. The only way you're going to make a Playstation/DVD player combo portable with one disc drive is to make a portable PS2.

Also, there's no reason a portable PSX or PS2 should be the size of a briefcase, as your mockup suggests.
