My dad has a flash drive that he uses for his business that the computer no longer recognizes. The usb port on the drive got bent, but the contacts are still contacting, for lack of a better word.
I figured the problem was the connection to the usb port so I soldered on an extra usb cable that I had laying around. Now only one computer recognizes its existence, but the computer doesnt know what it is. The flash drive just shows up as an unknown device.
Also, formatting the drive is not an option because my dad needs those files.
So, is there anything I can do to save the drive?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is the flash drive dead?

Well you can try pulling the information off the drive and then reformatting it. The only way I can think about getting it to be read is to use a live-CD OS (Knoppix, DSL, Ubuntu).
Other then that you may back to take the drive apart and see if there is anything wrong with its USB connector or anything else on it. Cause you might have the problem on that end.

resolder everything and make sure the ground wrap of the cable is connected. In a USB cable theres technically 5 wires.
