Desoldering iron or braid?

Ok i bought the Desoldering iron today not knowing about the braid and im wondering which is actually better? I know im probably in the wrong forum also...

Definitely the wrong forum. This is for Super Nintendo related posts only. This should go in Tech Q&A. I've seen a lot of topics in wrong forums lately and I was just wondering, if you know it's in the wrong forum, why post it there anyway?

Aside from that, I personally prefer a desoldering iron. I have had no luck at all with braid despite my many tries. However some people swear by it and would use nothing else. I find that with a desoldering iron, it is quick, simple, and works great. I guess you could try both and just use whatever you prefer. I have never been successful with desoldering braid, but I'm probably just not doing it right. With it being so cheap, it wouldn't hurt to buy some to try.

Desoldering braid works best with a somewhat high-powered iron. I prefer to use a desoldering iron.

both have uses. braid is good when you have to suck up big areas like near RF shielding and when you accidentally bridge legs on ICs. Desoldering irons are good for removing through hole components. I use both.

I strongly agree.......try using braid for removing a nes ppu (yes I had to do that AND keep it intact, yes guys I finally installed that copynes I bought in like 2005) anyway it's impossible with braid!
