power system, several questions

Post by kasar »

well, making and building my portable seems I missed something essential.

At the project starting I though about use indidual li-ons from a old laptop battery, but I heard the Li-ons are dangerous (can explode if protection circuit is not present when charging them)

well I need power my system, but It need arround 2,25 A for power it

So I have some questions.

1-the regulator-board of the Gamecube, what is the lower voltage it accept? something arroud 7.2v? 8v? im not sure

2-where I can find the a protection circuit for li-ons, and how much it will cost aprox

3-if the first option is not posible or I need some alternate options, what kind of batteries would give enough power for 1:30 playtime and be adecuate for a very slim place

4-what I should need for allow the system be used at same time it charges the battery?

thanks guys

I've seen this link thrown around on this site.

http://www.batteryspace.com/

Lots of interesting information about batteries there.

thanks bacteria, those are the individual voltage lines, Anyway I was looking for a general input for the regulator board not for individual voltages. (I planing still using the regulator board for feed all system, screen included, is more easier and the gc regulator board isnt really big)

something like the regulator board accept x V - x V

for example 8.4 - 22v

but Im not sure, I heard someone at this forum powered the board with 16v and it was fine, but I dont know the minimal lower voltage value for feed the system, I think it is arround 8,4 v or something, but not sure :S

This is very Important for let me choose a fine battery packs.

for the moment Im thinking to power it by a 12v battery pack, (it also will be easier cause it can be recharge with the default game cube charger (12v 3A)

A DC-DC converter is pretty well the only option. TI is your buddy.

I vaguely remember something like this from high school physics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformer

Although I am sure that there is a really good reason that you guys don't already use these for portables.

Transformers are for AC. a DC-DC is a DC transformer of sorts.
