Inverted joystick - Nope, not this time
How could I wire the original n64 joystick to invert the y axis?

Well thats what I was thinking, and then just trying to flip the wires for the y axis. Sounds pretty simple, but Im not 100% sure exactly how the components work, so it might not be easily possible. If I check the wires and post my results, think someone could help me figure out how to do this? It would be extremely useful to me, but others might find it useful too.

That is precisely the problem - it isn't wires it is wire - one for V and one for H. If it were two wires then you could invert, but hard when only one wire. Ah, I see. That sucks. Actually after thinking a little bit, I would need to invert both the x and y axis for it to be right. Well, I might try some things. If I come up with anything, I'll share. Man, it sure would be nice if this were easy...

Found a solution. I have modified the joystick to be inverted. I'm trying to get a video of it uploaded now. I will post it when its done. This is just a prototype (it doesn't work the greatest, but it is 100% functional as far as moving the joystick and it being backwards) and I will either start over with new parts or use parts from this one. Anybody know of a good converter (free) that will convert HUGE avi's to something small?
Edit: Not quite a solution yet. I can't fit the circuit board right, so I'll have to make something different.

If you found the solution I would certainly like to see it. You don't have to made a video, just post lots of pics and descriptions of the work.
I found that Windows Movie Maker (free with XP) works great - converts .avi files of about 120Mb (the ones I took yesterday) to about 9.6Mb as .wma format; which uploads to PhotoBucket fine (they have a max for a video of 5 mins or 10Mb for a file).

Well what I did was used the guts from 2 different joysticks and added gears to it, so that instead of the things inside moving the wheels directly, there was a gear in between, so that both joysticks were inverted. The problem is, the way I made it, there is no way to put the circuit board where the wheels go into their receiver things. I'll probably post some pics later.

Since you seem to know, how does it measure? I haven't even taken one apart, so I dunno how it works. And if it is voltage, does "down" measure as negative, and "up" as positive?
