The 6 AAAA's in a 9V bat are 1.2V!
The AAAA that the device uses is 1.5V!
You do realize that after just a little use (or when a load is put on them), alkaline batteries drop to about 1.2 volts anyway, and the dead battery in the Bluetooth headset probably has less than half a volt in it (given the headset's power draw). As batteries get used up, they slowly fade. They don't put out 1.5 volts for months then suddenly drop to nothing. More than likely, the bluetooth headset has been running on 1.2v for weeks with no problems.
We have a Canon digital camera that runs perfectly fine off NiMh AAs, so do Gameboys, remote controls, my grandfather's glucose meter, and other battery powered electronics.
Just freakin' try it and see what happens. Worst case scenario it doesn't work and you're out 5 bucks. It's not that big of a deal.
But if your father really uses the phone constantly, a corded headset is a better solution. Not only do they NOT require batteries, but he'll be able to disable Bluetooth on his cell phone, therefore its battery will last longer, too.
