slightly faster CPU, or RAM?

Ok, question

What would be better, having about 100MHZ faster CPU through OCing the FSB but with only 512MB of RAM, or 640MB of RAM but with the standard stock speed of 733mhz?

cause the 128MB stick I have crashes my system when i OC, but OCs just fine with out it, but leaving me with only 512MB of RAM.

Oh man, please tell me this is a laptop...

Try the mild overclock, and if you don't see much of a difference go back to stock settings and put the RAM back. (You might be better off at stock speed with extra RAM.)

Hey I can't complain, the whole computer was built from parts from old school computers, and I just so happens I found a Overclockable motherboard.

This Computer hasn't cost me anything to build, only thing I bought for it was a DVD-+RW burner, and only a $25 one at that.

It can play Halo pefectly so I can't complain, cause that is the only game I play on PC anyway.

I can sell you my old 1GB stick for $10+S&H.

It is DDR2 see if you can use it.

I would say that it depends upon what you're doing. If you're re-encoding video, then go for more CPU cycles. If you're running an over-bloated *cough*Vista*cough* operating system, then use more memory.

Generally, more RAM is more desirable. But like APHawks said, it does depend on what you are doing. But I REALLY hope you're not trying to encode video on a 733mhz CPU.

Clockspeed tends not to matter if your system is always dragging ass because of constant swap file access.

hehe I tried that once, took like 24hours for like one movie

Well I just ordered a 1GHz Slot one P3 from Ebay, I should be able to sqeeze out 1.1GHz through Overclocking, once I get that P3 in the mail, I think I may just using the extra stick of 128MB.

Thanks Dr. Killgood, but not even the best computer in my house wouldn't accept DDR2, this computer I am talking about uses PC133 SDRAM.

Though if someone has 1 more stick of 256MB or a 128MB PC133 laying around I will gladly take it off your hands.

That belongs in a museum, not on your desk!

Here's a cheap setup that could reuse some of your existing parts:
($80 mobo / CPU, $25 DDR2 800 1024MB RAM, $20 CPU cooler. Total: $125.)

You'd get more for your money this way...

Get the mobo and processor combo and I will send you a heatsink w/ fan and 1GB DDR2 memory for $20. =P

Thanks Bic, I will have to keep those in mind, I think 1Ghz will tide me over till I get the money to start building a new machine, I have allot of buddies from my IT class that can help me out too in finding decent brands of parts and such for cheap.
