Energyzer phone charger to USB mod?

If anybody has one of these,

can you tell me if it outputs 5V so I could add a USB port onto it and put it in a altoids tin.

I'm pretty sure they all output 5v. I know for a fact that the LG/Samsung version does.

They work OK, but the regulator is pretty cheap and needs fresh batteries.

It's more expensive, but if you want a portable USB charger thingy check out Minty Boost. You can get it as a kit, which is convenient. And since you're hanging around this forum the soldering shouldn't scare you.

I know about that but $20 seems too much for a few caps and a PCB.

...Yeah, but it'll work much better than that one you're looking at. Sometimes you just gotta pay for the higher efficiency. The bare PCB is only $5, so get that and rip some parts from old electronics.
