os issues.. kinda

Post by samus »

i downloaded a virus on accident (who really does it on purpose?). so first i did a scan, didn't work. then i scanned when i booted up, didn't work. then i looked for a cure online, didn't work. so i just said screw it and reinstalled windows.. for those who read about my computer problems before, you know that i backed up everything i have so it didn't take too long.

my question is kinda confusing. reinstalling an os usually just hoses the hdd, right? then why was world of warcraft still installed? i went to reinstall it and i get this "a folder has already been named that". so i did a search and found a shortcut to it. wtf? how could it still be on there?

my guess is, maybe i repaired windows instead of reinstalling it... could that be it?

you didn't reformat your hard drive, I'm guessing.

You just put a seperate copy of windows alongside your regular windows installation, probably C:\WINDOWS.0

If you just installed another copy chances are that the virus is still there, but is not active and working because it's still "attached" to the other copy of Windows, if that makes sense. :/ That's my two cents at least.

Yeah you need to reformat your hard drive. Reinstalling Windows doesn't format your hard drive. aka delete the virus.
