Projector from a 5" Zennith?

I saw when doing some random Googleing a PSone LCD used to make a projector!

What kind of parts would I need to do this? Is there a LED bright enough for a projector? I would use wall power so sky is the limit.

I saw instructions on how to make one of these a while back. I can't remember where i saw it. I think it may have been a forum dedicated to projectors.

I don't think there's many LEDs that would be bright enough for making a projector, save for a bank of very bright ones. Usually, a weak light is on par with a 100 watt incandescent bulb; more often it's higher, although that's for a much larger projector.

They don't make LED's that powerful. Which is why they still use bulbs.

I've done this; It works great. I used a 300 Watt Halogen bulb, and slapped it into a broken-bulb Overhead projector. It looks great; I used a 5-inch Composite LCD.

I'm a moderator at the LumenLab site.

I've built seven Diy projectors including a Psone projector.

You need a lamp. Preferably a metal halide with good color. Most use a 400watt with electronic ballast. That will give you pretty good brightness.

Then you'll need 2 fresnels. A 220mm rear fresnel and the front fresnel needs to match your triplet. Ususally a 330mm fresnel.

Then you need the triplet , usually a 330mm triplet.

You'll have to put it in a box and make sure everything is aligned perfectly.
The box will need to be about 600mm long unless you make a folded projector with a mirror.

It's a lot of work but amazing and worth it when you see it in action.

Hailrazer, about how much would the lenses cost? I want to make a projector, but I'm thinking it would be cheaper to just use an overhead.

It is cheaper to use an overhead but the results aren't nearly as good. Also with overheads there are several different types. Some use Halogen lights that only last 50 hours, and halogen lights are very yellow so the resulting image is yellow.
Others use metal halide lamps which are better but more expensive and still only last around 750 hours.
Also with an overhead you will need to raise the Lcd off the glass a bit to keep it cool. And then tape it up around the sides to keep the light from leaking. Also you will have wires dangling everywhere.
It's not an elegant solution.

You can get the standard S15 fresnel/triplet kit from LumenLabs for around $78 shipped. Then you will just need a light kit and a box.

Ballast for bulb. They don't just plug into the wall.
Triplet. This is needed to refocus the image to the screen.

I started making one of these but in true benheck style it was portable, I used one of those 1 mil candle power torches, It was made from a portable dvd player so It was all powered by battery's and the case was a cardboard box

. I started making a wood case but didn't have enough room the projector so it was all disassembled, Now I've got more room I might set it all up again. And it was an "alright" picture really for what it was made out of.

I've done this before and I really don't advise it for practical use. I took an old overhead projector I got form the school, cleaned it all up, put in new bulbs, etc, and then projected the image through that. It worked and all, but the resolution on the PSOne screen is really too small to be blown up any considerable portion. I know this works well with 14" screens and up, but 5" is just too small to be practical.
