Soldering Questions

I am new to soldering and have a few questions that I am sure you guys could help me with. When desoldering lets say a video port from a motherboard so that you can relocate the port, when you solder it back when it is in the place you want it, is it ok to just connect a piece of wire to the port and then to the motherboard? Or will this effect the current, since there is more resistance, I know it is small, but will it make a difference? Also I am trying to find guides on circuits, but I can't find any recent ones, only ones from a couple years ago, does anyone know of any good guides to learn about circuits and stuff?

The signal's going to go through a cable that's several feet long anyway; a couple extra inches won't make a difference. (And there will be no difference as long as you keep each pin on the jack connected to its original hole.)

What circuits do you need? The old diagrams, no matter how cryptic and MS-Painted, are still valid.

Ok thanks. And for the circuits, I just want to learn more about circuits , I know the basics, but I just want to learn mor, nothing specific.
