Probably not. I can imagine that something like that would not be liked by the smart charger. This is simply an educated guess; I am not entirely sure, but I know there are circuits designed to do similar things, and they're not that simple.
You need two batteries. So for normal use, the NESp power switch is on (duh), and one of the batteries is switched to on. Then to charge, switch desired battery to the charge position. Then you can still play using the other battery. When the charging battery is done and the in use battery is dead, you switch the charged battery to the play position (so that both batteries are being used), then switch the dead battery to charge.
I'm probably making it overly complicated, but it works.

That's a bad idea, because it allows the positive terminals of the batteries to be short circuited. This is potentially a serious problem. If one battery is dry and the other fully charged, the fully charged on will start charging the other one. The problem with this is that the wire might get hot enough to start a fire due to the high current.
You can solve this with two diodes:
1n4004 or similar should be what you need.
What I think would be a better way is using a DPDT switch. A DPDT switch work like regular switch, just that it has two switches in the same housing. Using this method, one battery will always be in charge mode while the other is powering the system.

If using MSPaint (And most of us are that lazy) gif/png will usually be just as ugly, because MSPaint doesn't optmize the palette, but will dither the image with a standard palette.

Oh I always assumed they were 8-bit because MSPaint generally sucks so much. However, I made a 500*500 test image with some random scribbles on it, saved it in both MSP and Photoshop and guess what. MSP's file was 2 kb bigger.
