Interesting problem, for me at least

Hey all,

So I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, I didn't see it in the forums. I just got my hands on an darth vader, and I'm looking into doing the composite video mod, however...

While testing the stock system I found that after about 2 - 3 minutes of play the previously perfect image and sound turns to black and white fuzz, but the image is still discernible. Reset does nothing, but quickly turning the power off then on restores the image, but it goes out in another 2 - 3 minutes.

My theories are either the RF box is doing something weird, or the power adapter is bad. However, in either case I can't figure out why it takes so long for the problem to present itself.

So has anyone seen anything similar to this? Thanks a lot!

I would suggest checking in on doing the composite video mod, that should clear up any video problems. Using the RF adapter is a really bad way of getting video, the signal is weak and very prone to interference (which could be cause of your problem).

Only other things you might wan to look into is check the cartridge slot and the cartridge itself. See if they need cleaning. That could also cause the video to become fussy or other video related issues.

Ok, I'll try that out. I wasn't sure since the machine was already having problems if doing the mod would just make things worse, but I guess if I don't have a fully functioning machine to start with I'm not losing much. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

So I finally got time to start working on this, and I had a quick question. On the site for the new video mod it says that if you can't find the correct resistors you can wire resistors in series to get "close." My question is how close do I need to get it? For instance the pack of resistors I got doesn't contain 10ohm resistors, so can I use a 390, with two 33s? Or is 6 over to much?
