So, I ordered a zenith screen off of gamedealdaily.com, and I was just thinking what portable I wanted to start off with. I don't want to start with a NESp or a Snesp, or any of those. I prefer playing the classics at home on a tv. And also, I want to give myself a little challenge. So at this point, I want to do either an XboxP, or a Ps2p.
My thoughts on each
XboxP
Good
-Fairly unique
-I enjoy the games a lot more
-Bigger challenge
-I could mod it and play Nes, Snes, N64 etc. games
-Less expensive if I accidentally broke it and needed a replacement
Bad
-Much bigger
-More power needed
-Much heavier
Ps2P
Good
-Small, compact
-Not as big on the power draw
-Some good games, not as many as the xbox though
-Also fairly unique
Bad
-Expensive
I really don't know right now. I like how small the Ps2P can be, but I like the functionality of the XboxP. I like games on both, and they're fairly cheap right now. I don't own an xbox anymore, but I do have a Ps2 slim with a broken laser, if I bought a replacement laser then it becomes much less expensive, unless I break it. While with the xboxp, if I wanted to get complete functionality out of it, I'd have to mod it, and add a bigger hard drive, and I'm not great at all that fancy computer stuff.
Don't even mention the Gamecube, I have one, and I'm currently getting more use out of it as a paperweight than I ever did as a console.

I'm thinkin that you could cut the xboxs power consumption in half if you remove the dvd drive and replace the HDD with a CF card. Of course the CF card needs to be pretty big (16GB at least really). The upside is that you then end up with something pretty small. Sometime in the future I plan to make an Xbox portable small this way and make a laser cut metal case (Its going to be so awesome). The problem is that I don't have that much money so it waits until after the cheaper MAME arcade cabinet. The uses of a modded xbox are many. However if you are not as sure of your skills or do not have strong arms so you will be able to lift an xbox portable then perhaps you should do a PS2P. I like Xbox better than ps2 obviously even though I played a lot more ps2 before I bought my xbox.

It being too heavy wasn't as huge a problem as the other things, I could hold heavier than an xbox for hours on end (although, the battery wouldn't last that long). If I could do everything you mentioned about the xbox, then it'd be an open and shut case, but I can't afford it. That's where my dilemma is. Ps2p it is then. I'll do an Xboxp when I hit the jackpot.
After taking a look at the slim's board, and the size of the Zn45 case on polycase.com, I will most likely be able to fit it in if I trim the board down a little. Might be a little thicker, but hey, that's what bondo is for.
Was also on ebay for a little while this morning, found some more than decent Rc car batteries, two 7.4v 5400 mAh NiMh battery packs, one will be more than enough to power this thing for at least 2 or 3 hours. Chances are I'll be looking a little more, to find something in the 4000mAh range to save a couple bucks. If anyone has any good NiMh batteries lying around, shoot me a pm. I'd prefer the ones for the Rc cars, because they're easy to work with, don't have to worry about wiring anything in series, or adding battery compartments into the case.
