Accessing additional menus - PSOne LCD

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Accessing additional menus - PSOne LCD

If anyone's interested in how exactly you can access the OSD menu to adjust tint, contrast, input brightness, etc., let me know and I can write up a tutorial or something.

To get to the OSD screen, you just need to reprogram the 24C02 EEPROM the PSOne LCD has on board. You can either buy a programmer or make one out of some crap you have lying around. I used a BASIC Stamp HomeWork Board that I got a few years back, worked just fine.

Anyway, let me know if anyone's interested in messing with these additional options.

It will be interesting to see what you can do and how you do it. People like me don't program or have the means to, so if there are useful things in the menu, how about offering a service to flash the memory across and sell the chips?

I was thinking about doing that actually, but that's half the reason I wanted to test waters with this thread I suppose. :P

I'll keep tinkering with the settings anyway, and keep you guys updated.

I've looked in to this also, i think the erprom just holds the brightnes settings and the sound volume, color or contrast hav'nt been programed on to it. Theres probably some extra code on the eprom that the custom samsung "Wise View" chip requires to function. This chip controls the AN2526NFH video decoder chip via an I2C Bus, tells it the settings for color, contast ect. I my opintion there are all set to high!

It will be awsome if we can get accses to the hidden menus the wise view chip holds. The wise view chip may have some unused pins that bring up a OSD menu. I'm going to touch a grounding pin one by one every pin of the chip, maybe a menu will pop up.

i've had a play with the board and there seems to be no way of get getting the menu up without re-programming the eeprom. The only thing i could get the psone screen to do is restart. I tried to power up the screen with the eeprom removed and it was just dead, i replaced it and it was working agian.

Perhaps the OSD menu only comes up if the eeprom is empty, so the screen can be set up to the users needs.

I've seen on the internet some where, a simple printer port programmer that people can make and with a simple DOS program erase, write and read any 2 wire eeprom. With one of these one could attach it to the SCA and SDA solder pads on the psone screen and erase the eeprom so the menu comes up. I will try this later this week and maybe we can get a tutorial up.

Im interested in doing this, but I don't know much about programming eeproms. Any way I could get a chip from someone else or could someone tell me exactly how to do this myself? Any help would be appreciated. :D
