PSone screen - transformer relocation

PSone screen - transformer relocation

Has anyone done this? Are the surface mount components around the transformer important? What I want to do is chop off the top of the mobo but still keep the original backlight. Any opinions on how I should go about this?

i remember reading that G-force originally did that for the PlayMad. but, it never worked properly. he eventually had to led mod it...
