How would one sucessfully split a Nintendo 64 controller?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

I'm working on a portable Nintendo 64 (don't worry, pics WILL eventually be posted!), and I thought it might be cool to paint it to match the color of the Wii.

So if any of you guys out there happen to know the title of this color is, and what type of paint to use, I will forever be in your debt.

Now changing the subject of this topic, how would you split the N64 controller to each end of a portable, similar to SamuelM's portable?

I need a total Newb's guide! This is my very first portable, and...yeah...

Sam's

SamuelM didn't split the controller board. He did what I did which is cut off the D pad part of the PCB and then solder on longer wires for the R and Z buttons as well as the joystick. Using that way you can cut down on the size of the PCB quite easily. Ben of course did the ultimate way which is to cut off all the button contacts leaving only the circuitry in the middle though this did make it a sphagetthi central.
