Voltage Regulator EDIT: CORRECT PICTURE!

Post by project_failure »

I took this out of a broken dvd player.

It looks like a 7805. I was wondering if anyone knew what the specifics for it are.

Here is a data sheet. I don't pretend to understand it.

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.

Going by what that search brought up, it appears to be a high voltage N-channel MOSFET (transistor) made by Fairchild Semiconductor. The TO-220 package (what that transistor and the 7805 look like) is common for all sorts of medium to high-power ICs, so having something that shape doesn't always mean it will be a voltage regulator. You could always use it as a high-voltage, 4A switch :).
