5" LCD LED mod questions.

So I am doing the LED mod on my XBOX LCD it is EXACTLY the same as a PSONE screen. =P

Anyway when you do this the brightness controls on the LCD still work like they are supposed to right?

Also can I do 4LED's or does it have to be 3? I just think 4 would be better.

Also the book says I need 1 "10OHM resistor" and leads to radio shack and it says

"10OHm resistor 1/2watt" but I already have some "10OHm resisto 1/8watt"

Does the wattage matter or do I need 1/2 watt ones?

The brightness should still work. Typically the brightness control on these things controls the LCD, not the backlighting.

You could use 4 LEDs, but the voltage drop will be different. You might need a different resistor to get a good brightness.

If the guide says 1/2 watt I wouldn't even try 1/8 watt. There's a good reason why this was put there. You can always go higher, but shouldn't go lower. Otherwise you'll burn up your components.

I don't know if they still sell them like this, but Radio Shack used to have a "bag of resistors" which had a variety of wattages and values. Since you're experimenting with 4 LEDs it may be worthwhile to get that and try different combinations.

Yes, that's exactly it. The backlighting is constant - just the LCD is adjusted.

I always use 4 LEDs. It gives more consistent lighting. Some folks use up to 6 LEDs, but it's up to you how much power you want to conserve.

I wouldn't go any lower than 1/4 watt for the resistor. Like APHawkes says: just go buy a big grab bag of resistors at RadioShack and you'll be set for a year or more of modding.

Life Of Bryan what LED's and resistors do you use? Can you link me to them on digikey?

Also how does the LCD block the light? I thought they were made for light to go right through them.

Basically, an LCD controls the light going through it - RGB done pixel-by-pixel.
