SS mods his Dell Axim X50v to take his mind of his Wii

Post by ShockSlayer »

 damn my wii... Okay, so I built this cuz I wanted something to do.

Time taken: ~4 Hours

Its a Dell axim x50v with the bottom controls modded to an n64 controller shell. It is perfect for emulation and games and stuff. cept activesync hates me right now, but its almost finished installing.

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.

You can sand hot glue down, and also use a craft knife to shape it. There is therefore no excuse for not having a fairly smooth surface (laziness is not an excuse!). You can then paint the hot glue (I did on the LED window areas on my project) and make it look nice. It is worth spending some time getting this nice.

Oh yes, also integrate the PDA>USB mini mobo into the casing to make it look far better, rather than just having a bare board.

That screen is a strange aspect ratio for SNES etc, but a great aspect ratio for games like Galaga

Nice mod! I would have gone with a cleaner cradle setup myself, but that works just as well.

Doesn't the x50v have 3D acceleration? :? I think there's a couple FPS games it can run besides Doom...

Good emulators:
- PocketNester
- Pocket Gnuboy
- PocketVCS (I can't get Stella working right)
- DOSbox (Even my 312 mhz thing can sort-of run Stunts)
- PicoDrive (Genesis)
- gfDoom

Other Stuff to Get:
- PHM RegEdit
- Opera Mobile
- TCPMP (better than Media Player)
- A VNC utility of some sort

That's actually an excellent idea. :P If it were implemented just a tad bit prettier, that would take it from "nice" to "one hella awesome mod"! Bacteria, get on it!

what problems are you having? 'cause I just got it working fine on my iPaq. If it is just kind of lagging, turn off the sound and adjust the frameskip.

Thanks! No, my old PDA was too slow to play emulation at a good enough speed; I have no need for getting a new one.
