General N64 Questions

Ok I'm a New member, and I have a few questions.
1) Can anyone tell me why my xbox analog stick doesn't work with my Madcats N64 controller?
2) Does any one have a Hori Mini for under $15 usd?
3) I'm starting a portable n64 and was browsing the forums, and most of the sticky links are dead. also the stickys need more pinouts.
4)what in your opinion is the smallest an experienced amateur could make an n64 mobo?

Xbox analog stick should work, with a third party N64 controller.

My stickies aren't dead (are they?), my current one (multi-project) certainly isn't and has all the info you need.

You can only trim down the grounding strips on the N64 mobo (the silver coloured parts) - you need some of it but 90% of it can go.

the links I'm speaking of are on the "N64 portable Info" page. the only ones that are dead seem to be the ben hecks.
well I've got my controller busted open and soldered on the xbox analog but it seams everything moves at a crawl. maybe the stick doesn't let enough power through? a picture of a correctly soldered analog stick would be nice.

ok I saw your controller, but the analog has 3 wires mine only has 2.

Check the last page on the sticky. I fixed the links a while ago. There was a server change, so the links are different now.

By any chance did you record what wire went where before you cut the n64 analog stick off?

I'm bidding for one on ebay. should be starting my portable here pretty soon

No one has done this before but I have been thinking about it for quite a while.
It will work with the proper wiring. On acid mods I saw an external joystick mod which shows you how to wire up a ps1 joystick. So theoretically, you can do this by shorting the same pins on the n64 controller as the ps1 joystick. It shouldnt be that hard to do.

Yes you can use a PSP joystick, I have seen pinouts for the connectors. People however hate the PSP joystick, so may not be such a good idea.

You'll need a third party N64 controller to use a PSP analog.

OK I've got a psp stick on its way to the house. I haven't had time to work on the analog stick but it'll happen tomorrow. I would like to have all the info I could on powering this project(power consumption N64w/expansion and LED'd psone screen). This will help me order my battery's. I'm thinking Lithium Polymer(Li-Po) I just need to figure out which one to buy to get around three hours of play.
