Daft Punk Idea!

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Daft Punk Idea!

Post by LoyalistRevolt »

Well what I wanted to do was to get one of these helmets http://www.villagevoice.com/blogs/statu ... -punk2.jpg and to put in a line of Red LEDs. And make it display Words and images... I was thinking of making it run off of switches... But my question is does anyone have a better idea on how this could run?[/img]

Switches? :? How about a microcontroller instead?

You could probably reverse-engineer a cheap LED signboard, but what would serve you better is a course in digital electronics, to learn how latches and flip flops work.

That said, I only barely remember how to do any of this. Yay college.
This is the internet. It means nothing. Don't believe otherwise.

You could use a uC. There are a few different ways you could do it, my recommendation would be to just light up one row and one column at a time (just 1 led), scrolling down fast (make use of PoV and such). Then you can limit the amount of transistors needed. Think you can either use shift registers or multiplexers for the lines, but you could just use io lines of the uC if there are enough of them.

To get the true Daft Punk method, use multiplexers instead of PoV.
