ATI can kiss my butt!

A few of you people in the chat last night may remember that I said I would be back in a minute and I had to log in as root on my Linux box, but didn't come back. The reason? I installed some ATI drivers for my card earlier, and after I logged out I could not be in anything but a command line. I tried "startx", but that gave me some error about a framebuffer or something like that. It mentioned that ATI was a new driver or something like that, so I looked on ATI's website to see if there was any fixes. There was one that described by problem to the dot, but it was for a slightly older version of the driver than what I have. The solution? Upgrade. The recommended version? The same one I already have! I then spent about 10 minutes writing up a ticket, and had a message saying I have been idle for a while once or twice during the writing process. I clicked "ok" to remain being on within 5 seconds of the error. When I finally sent it, they said that I was on too long or something like that. They said to click on their back button (ok, I should have used that one and not the one on my browser) highlight the message, copy it to the clipboard, refresh, and paste it again. I clicked the back button on my browser, and it was all gone!

needless to say, I'm really pissed off at ati right now for having their drivers screw up my linux box the way it did. Wish me luck in recovering it, as I really don't want to go through with reinstalling Everything

have you ver used thermite. I did in a chem lab once. Its dangeruos and the fumes cause cancer and silicosis

Was it not working? they always say UPGRADE cause its there job, its not customer service, its moneycounting.

You cant get too angey, I dont think ATI evern supports Linux drives yet. As for fixing it why not just go with the standard driver thats loading from the kernel.

I dont really like linux right now as I cant watch tv under it as it shut off my tv tuner. Yeah it will be a fix thats about as hard as your fix.

I hear ATI is making the jump, but their support for Linux isn't as good as other companies just yet.

A lot has changed then in a year. When I checked a year ago they didnt have any drivers what so ever for Linux nor did they support any real help in making one.

Cennar could be right, I mean if you are having this much trouble, then they dont support themselves very well. And ATI does have Linux support, my friend has a few linux boxes with ATI cards/shipsets.
Personally, I am an Nvidia man. Better graphics, better... um... stuff. Since I had an ATI card a while ago (like 4 years) and then I got the same Nvidia card (both where about 32mb RAM, DirectX 5 or 4, clock speed of 200-ish). The Nvidia one had so many less problems than my ATI card.
Personally, ATI sucks, Nvidia rules. (I think),
Anyway, have you tried searching some of the ATI related forums, that is where my friends got a lot of info and help for their ATI cards on Linux.
