Is this a overall good battery for a portable?

Is this a overall good battery for a portable?

I have a rechargeable 7.4V 2500mah battery from a Portable DVD player I used to have. Would this battery be good enough for use in a portable?

Yes it would. Just be careful not to leave out anything that might be related to the charging circuit, and use the proper charger.

Seems better than the usual Infolithium batteries everyone else uses, based on power over time calculations.

Depends on the portable, but generally speaking, yes. Just don't try to use it on anything 32 bit or above; you won't get much life out of it.
