Gamecube screws

I know i need the special gamebit screwdrivers to open of my gc. When I look on ebay there are both 4.5mm and 3.8 mm. What do I need? both? what about a tri-wing?

The bigger bit is for consoles, the smaller is for game carts, and the triwing is for GBA/DS and accessories. Of course, there may be exceptions here and there, but this is true for the most part. I've been using mine for years.

I can confirm that the Wii uses a triwing screw

edit: Wii controllers, that is. the only screws i've seen on the console itself are phillips.

Or just cut up a metal pipe of some sort, I think bacteria did a tutorial on how to make a gamebit on the cheap.

I must say, though, as far as reliability goes, a gamebit screwdriver, not a bit, is the most reliable way to go. I've owned two bits, and each broke on me after some time. My older cousin who makes a living selling arcade units happened to have a gamebit screwdriver laying around from the 80s that he gave me, and it's super solid. I don't even know if they make them anymore, but it's worth looking!

Also, check www.dealextreme.com for gamebits, as I think they have them for very low prices, like $1 shipped or something like that.

I spent about two hours on dealextreme and I could only find the tri-wings.

I've actually used that trick on gameboy games before. It does work. I needed to replace the button-battery inside a couple of my gameboy games. got out my lighter and made myself a temporary etorx screwdriver. although, I will say it doesn't work on stubborn screws. I tried this on my SNES and it didn't work. the plastic teeth just kept breaking off of the pen.

the real name of the screwdriver is etorx (or along those lines). Its basically just an inverted torx screwdriver. I bet you could even use a torx screw if you built a handle for it.

instead of buyin a screwdriver get a bic pen take all the ink and things out light it on fire then stick it in were the gamecube screw hole is

beneath the feet, some covers and the black GC piece there are triwing screws.

AKA linehead nut. The only thing it has in common with TORX are the six points. However, Torx uses a perfect hexagram whereas Linehead nuts are a circle with 6 fins.
