PSP question.

Post by Grandmasterjimmy »

I want a PSP only for emulation, none of the games on it look fun to me. So I was thinking, "why spend $100 on a PSP if I'm not even gonna play the games?". So I looked on eBay and saw that PSP's with broken UMD drive are really cheap.

So my question is, would it be a good idea for me to get a PSP with a broken UMD drive if I only want it for emulation?

Yup. That would be good. I play GBA on my PSP and it works like glass.

Agreed. Great idea. That's all that I use my PSP for...which is why I didn't care that the UMD door didn't latch when I bought it from vskid. I played Spider Man on it...once...for about five minutes, just because I could (and vskid included the UMD). Since then, I've never used it. Emulators and Handbrake FTW.

I do recommend a large Memory Stick though. Amazon has a good price on a 4gb Sandisk Ultra II (the fast one). I got mine for ~$30.

You may need the UMD drive in order to downgrade to 1.5, keep in mind.

I thought you just used a pandora's battery, and a memory stick with the right files on it to do it? In the handheld forum, that's how it shows.

Wasn't there someone (on AcidMods, I think) who replaced the UMD drive with a small USB hard drive? Maybe you could do something like that. :)

Thanks, I looked that up on acids mods, and it's so simple ^_^

It's only like 8 wires to solder.

You're behind the times, Bibin. No one uses the Lumines exploit any more, its all Pandora battery. It'll work with any firmware and even most (all?) bricks.

That works, although PSP has some fantastic commercial games.

PSP's can play commercial games off memory sticks but were not allowed to say how around here

Lol, well know I have the option of playing real games too with the PSP :D The only game I've really looked at is Sonic rivals, just because I'm a huge Sonic fan. I need to look at what games the PSP has to offer.
