Revisions?

Post by Unreal88 »

Anyone's got an idea which revisions of the N64 have been made?
And which one is the least to break?
Since I want to make a N64 portable too some day, but then I need to know which one to buy..

Thanks in advance,

You ideally want the old ones, 1996 ideal, robust - they are in the standard black shell - don't go for N64's in coloured shells as they are more problematic.

I have opened a few black ones and they are all 1996. No idea if they made them later, I do know Nintendo started with the black ones and then introduced colours later; so by definition, if you get a black one you will have an earlier one!

There are black ones and dark gray ones. You can really tell a difference if you put them next to each other or swap the exp pack covers. I can't remember if it's any significance or not though.

I think the dark grey were the black, as technically the black ones are dark grey; they are just referred to as "black". There are hundreds of shades of black, especially in the printing business, after all.
