Network Issues

Here is my problem, I have two computers hooked up to a router, and they work fine, but about every couple of hours the internet goes out and I have to reset my router and my modem. How can I tell what the problem is?

If you have Comcast, get used to it. I had a similar problem, and it fixed itself after a few months. Though I think the whole issues was Comcast and it's issuing IP addresses, cause it would happen like clockwork between 10:30 and noon.

If that's not the case for you, check your router settings and make sure it's set to dynamic IP. Beyond that I can't think of any other solution based on what you've given us.

We have a similar problem with AT&T. We simply cannot get online from around 9-10am. It will also randomly go out sometimes, necessitating a restart of the modem.

Too many TCP connections can cause your router to, for lack of a more accurate term, copulate off. If you have such a setting in your router's configuration, tell it to time TCP connections out faster, or update your firmware.

Alternately, stop raping the internet with P2P. There just isn't that much good content out there to necessitate 24/7 connection saturation.

Additionally, ISP-supplied modems are utter trash, and most national ISPs will not allow you to use your own modem (because how else would they artificially throttle your connection, hm?).
