Why does blizzard want my number?

I was gonna create a free 10-day trial account of WoW. Why do they want my phone number and address? I know they are a big company and stuff, but that kinda creepy.. Do you think its OK to give me real stuff? They let me pass with random junk like 555-555-5555 for my phone number. haha

Why does any company ask for contact information? It's fairly self explanatory. And if you really feel the need to ask question about something you can answer yourself, how about you just ask Blizzard about it and leave the spam at home?
