NES Game Chips

Does anyone know how those pirated 76-in-one games work? I always wondered and considered throwing together a Super-Mega-Awesome Cartridge that held my favorite games without having to lug around Zelda,Megaman, etc... Also, do just regular NES games have a clock signal for syncing reads to the NES? I have an idea...

Those pirate 76-in-one game things you speak of are referred to as NOACs (Nintendo on a chip) here and if you search around the forums, you will find tons of info about them and making portables with them. With a lot of them, you can add a cartridge slot and play actual NES carts as well as the built in games. I'm not sure about putting it in a cartridge and playing the games with an actual NES, though.

To my knowledge the way they get something to the order of 20 or so games on one rom is they use the same rom styles and bank switching. The NES had several differnt ROM chip styles, so it makes it impossible to have all games on one chip, but those that share the same one can be put on a ROM chip. The games are likely accessed via bank switching as there is no way the NES's hardware could access more then say 8k of data.

If you found a NOAC with a game ROM that you liked, and your soldering skills were good. You could cut the ROM out and wire it to a cartridge edge, presto you have a cartridge that has all the games you could ever want.

I get what you guys are saying... I wanted to know If I could cram a MASTER CART AND ENABLE A CART SWITCH IN IT (Sorry CAPS LOCK) and bank switch software, or bank switch pins using hardware aka transistors and switches. Thanks Guys
