and I plan on taking it apart and cleaning it because its pretty dusty. I tested it in the store and everything worked great and it booted right up and read discs lightening fast (which is good because it seems like 90% of sega cd's out there have read problems from years of neglect). Is there anything I should worry about when I open it up? I've never had a problem taking apart and putting back together any first party Sega product (I had one 3rd party controller that I took apart that didn't work when I put it back together, but it may have been not working in the first place or I might have shifted the buttons when I closed it, but I digress), so I was just wondering if there was anything I should be extra careful of like a precariously placed ribbon cable or something.

well, I went ahead and did it, its not too bad at all. There are six screws on the bottom (its a model 2, btw) and then the top just comes right off in one big piece and leaves all the hardware in the lower half. I was very pleased to find that all the motors and laser equipment looked mint and even had perfectly dispersed factory grease on the gears for the laser movement. Awesome.
