Creating a phono/RCA jack to 3.5mm miniature audio cable

I proposed this idea to myself in an attempt to output my Gamecube audio to a simple set of powered computer speakers. There are cables and converters out there, but the problem with this is that one of my co-workers decided to tell me that I wouldn't be able to do it. Wrong thing to tell me.

Using equipment and parts that I have here in the office, I created the cable using a 3.5mm female jack out of an old laptop, audio cable for an old sound card and a SCART connector that has composite video and L/R audio RCA/phono connectors.

The only issues that I am running into is that the audio sounds like it's in a tunnel, and there seems to be a type of loss of some audio frequencies or volume output on those frequencies.

My limited knowledge suggests that either some resistance needs to be introduced to the setup, or that possibly a better gauge of wire needs to be used.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad solder joint, or you didn't plug one of the cables in all the way into the connectors.

It was a bad solder joint apparently. I unsoldered everything, then resoldered it taking extra care and time to make sure there was good connections and it's working now.
