Will the new Indiana Jones end up like episode 1?

IDK how to explain it but I just have a bad feeling about it. In my mind post 1996 George Lucas is insane.

Um, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Stupid Title is being directed by Spielberg. George Lucas is just one of the producers.

There may still be hope for it. At least, the trailers look decent.

I hope it is as good as Episode I. Then again I am one of those folk who actually likes the prequels (although Ep. 2 definitely had some issues).

All I'm looking for out of Indy 4 is for it to at least be as good as The Last Crusade (the weakest of the Indy movies so far IMO). If it can do that I'll be happy.

Given the fact that Spielberg is directing it, I think it has a pretty good shot. He doesn't make crap (other than the misguided 1941 anyway) and he has been doing the best work of his career over the course of the past decade.

PS - Lucas originally came up with the concept of Indiana Jones (and many of the story ideas), but Spielberg has been in the director's chair for all four of them.

I'm with Life of Brian here, Last Crusade was definitely better than Temple of Doom. I mean really, it had Sean Connery!

As far as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I'm trying to not raise my hopes too high, but I think it has potential to be on the same level as the previous movies.

We can at least hope that the movie uses a lot of the traditional special effects, and everything is not CG.

I might see the movie I might not.

Not kidding at all. Temple of Doom is awesome.

The villains are way more sinister than Nazis. Evidence can be found in the rituals of human sacrifice, ripping still beating hearts out of chests, enslavement of children, etc.

Also you get "evil" Indy, Short Round, and a dark (see above) story wrapped up in a sequel to one of the early big box office hits.

Lucas and Spielberg could have easily played it safe (which they did with The Last Crusade) and crapped out generic sequel, but instead they took chances (something that barely anybody does these days) and took it in a new direction.

The Last Crusade was a good time, but there is absolutely nothing special about it at all. It is what Temple of Doom would have been if they hadn't even tried.

I was under the impression the Spielberg didn't like Temple of Doom and it was all Lucas' idea.

Which makes a lot of sense, because I thought it was awful, much like the Star Wars prequels.

Though I'm also not a fan of Spielberg, though I'm hoping that Crystal Skull manages to be good, but not hoping too much.

You are correct that ToD was Lucas' idea, but that is also the case with all of the other Indiana Jones movies. Lucas is the brainchild behind Indiana Jones in its entirety. He came up with the original concept and the majority of the ideas for all of the movies. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have Star Wars or Indiana Jones. What a crappy world that would be.

From what I have read the only thing that Spielberg regrets about the movie is its darker tone. At the time though he and Lucas were both going through divorces/breakups and wanted to make the movie reflect their darker mood. There was a recent EW article where he and Lucas reflected on the series and he briefly discussed it.

Fun Fact: Temple of Doom is actually a prequel (takes place prior to Raiders). This was done specifically to avoid having the Nazis in the movie again. For Crystal Skull they avoided this by just waiting two decade so they would have to set it in the Cold War instead.

Well you mentioning that ToD was a prequel makes sense now, although that doesn't change that it was the worst out of the three.

I just think that the idea of Indiana running around with a little kid as his side-kick was really silly. Not to mentioned the whole ancient gods that were involved, that part where he's yelling and the stone gets hot.... sorry that just seemed dumb.

I really don't have any complaints about the other two, except I would be curious as to what they'd do with the scene of the ark being opened if they digitally remastered it. Yes I know that's a mortal sin right there.
