Computer Woes *Urgent, Sorta*

Hey guys. Urgent problem, sorta.

My PC has a pretty good processor. Its a Intel Duo Core 2 @ 1.50ghz. (So 2 1.50ghz cores.)

Problem is that, something weird is happening. When ever I scroll up or down a page really fast or move the mouse really fast on a program thats graphical (Such as youtube.) My CPU usage goes up to like, 50% and up.

This shouldnt happen.

Also, MSN freezes like every 1 hour for some unknown reason. I'm not sure why. (And so far, its only doing it on ONE of my accounts. All the other accounts, don't have this problem... so far.)

I've ran MS onecare. No viruses were found but 320 reg errors were. I fixed those. It seems to be running SOMEWHAT better. But I'm still getting the problem with MSN and CPU usage problem.

So everything I have done is: Ran Regcleaner, Ran Virus Scan, Ran spyware scan. My PC is setup that both cores (Core 0 and Core 1), both handle every program. Right now I set MSN to run on ONLY Core 1. (I havn't got the problem with MSN since then. But the other CPU usage problem with moving mouse and scrolling pages up and down fast, persists). I've ALSO did a One month system restore.

Questions:

1)Does anyone know whats going on? I just reformatted this PC like a month ago, and this problem just started up recently.

2) What else can I do? Run a Chkdsk? Run defragger? (MY PC is 17% Fragged.)

3) I've also turned down my graphics to like, Single display and such, just to see if my graphics is causing the problem. Could my graphics be causing the problem?

4)Like in my other thread, my PC gets hot. Would the heat cause this issue?

5) Whats causing this issue?

You would't happen to have got a new graphics card or update your graphics card drivers recently have you? I had a similar problem on my computer when I got a new graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT (not exactly new, but new to me ))- the drivers were faulty and caused programs like MSN to have a memory leak, and so the CPU usage would just rise up and up until the system froze. The solution to this problem was to revert to an older version of the drivers. Hope this helps

Havn't updated drivers since I reformatted. And all the drivers I got, came off the computers driver CD. (Its a vista system disk, but it has older drivers that work on XP. So I used those.)

I did not install bluetooth nor fingerprint sensor, if that makes any difference. (There in my Device Manager but it says they need a driver.)

Please provide all details of your hardware in your PC.

For the CPU usage while scrolling, what browser do you use? In my laptop (AMD Semperon, 1.5 GHz) it maxes to 45% on Mozilla Firefox version 2.0.0.14.

If im correct, a dual core isn't two processors. So you don't have 2 1.50 processors. You have two micro processors, that make up your 1.50ghz processor.

And msn is lame like that sometimes. It used to happen to me a lot.

Ghosst, from what people posted in my other thread, its: I have TWO microprocessors. There both at 1.50ghz.

Windows XP SP3
1GB Ram
150GB HDD
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.50 (2 CPU's)
Nvidia Gefoce 8600M GT (512MB + 256RAM = 768MB Shared)

Yea. But I had the problem before SP3.

Could be a heat issue. Are you using the standard Intel HSF? Any overclock on the CPU? Does your case have adequate ventilation?

Download CoreTemp, it'll tell you the temperature on both cores. Also, google your CPU and find it's T-junction max (the temperature at which it shuts down), and compare that to your temperatures in CoreTemp. If CPUs approach their T-junction man, they'll slow down in order to reduce the heat being produced. If your CPU is running very hot, replace the HSF with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, or a Tunic Tower, they'll cut your temperatures by at least 10 degrees.

Even if that doesn't solve your problem, less heat is always a good thing.

You could always do a fresh OS install and test it out on default settings to rule out any hardware issues. Honestly thats what i would do. It wont take long if you know how to do it and you will find out pretty quickly if software related or hardware related.
