Turning 2 Power Supplys Into One

I'm currently gathering together parts for making the elussive PS2 laptop and I need to know how to power both PS2 and screen off the same plug.

The screen apparently runs off;

"Power Supply: DC12V 15W"

And I'm using a Fat ps2 but have no idea what the powersupply that goes to that is.

can anybody help me out? any kinda walkthrough would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure what the voltages are for a PS2 either, but I'd bet there's 12v in there somewhere. Not sure if there's enough wattage to run the screen, though.

Do you have the power supply for the screen? If so, you could just find a place for it inside the laptop somewhere, or make the power supply for the PS2 larger and fit the screen's power supply in there as well. Not exactly sure what you're layout is going to look like. A little more info might be nice.

I'm currently drawing up plans but I have a useless PS2, so its good to use the board for measurements and suchlike.

I'm planning to take an old broken laptop from e-bay; hopefully a Sony Vaio for that PS2 appearance.

I had an idea about having the pad as kept internally (as in not case mounted) like as the battery compartment that'd just pull out and it'd be connected by a homemade cable spindle to the boards pad input. However having the input trapped in the case would make it impossible for a second player to join so my alternative is - to keep the board AND controller sections inside the case but use a multi tap to extend it to the outside the case (hidden from view by a fliptop section)(inspiration coming from the PS3's cardreader)) so memory cards and controllers (gotta invest in at least one wireless one) would slot in vertically.

That coverts the floppy controller/memory card section of the PS2 board. The only other things that need access are the two USB sockets, I've got a splitter for one which I intend to connect to a keysonic nano keyboard I've bought (a much smaller keyboard to replace the Vaio's) and hack the touchpad to also run from USB. The final USB I intend to use an extension and mount that to the case.

As for the screen I've got a nice 10 inch one on the way that I'll replace the laptops with, and it also receives freeview and tv channels but also takes an AV signal so the PS2 will connect up to it so just solder the cables onto the screens board and enclose the them in a similar way to how Ben did with his 360 laptop.

I use a hard drive and hdloader so thats also gotta fit in so i've gotta hack the network adapter so it takes up less space (and sqeeze a 3.5 hard drive in and make it easy to take out to upload new movies and games) now for the stupid idea - even worse then the pad.

A slide out section of the case; kinda like a matchbox that'll hold the hard drive, make a rig inside the case so it slides out on keyboard runners meaning easy access to attach and detach the hard drive (i originally intended to use this idea for the cd drive but decided it wouldn't be do-able and seeing as i never use swap magic anyway I decided against it)

I realize all this is seriously gonna be packed into a laptop but seems possible if layered properly; add a few fans for cooling and the power inputs to the side of the case too - however that'd require one plug for the screen and another for the ps2 which is why I'd like to limit it to a single plug (If i wasn't so picky I could connect both to a dual plug adapter but then it would look seriously ugly

I'm still in the planning and part gathering stage at the moment.

So far I have;

Fat PS2
PS2 USB Splitter cable
Keysonic Nano Keyboard

Multitap

10.4 Inch Screen (on order)

Parts still needed;

dead/faulty laptop
wireless PS2 pad (possibly mod into a NES pad - smallest flattest pad I can think of that'll slide easily into a laptop if I have free space - saves lugging around a separate pad)
Keyboard slides/runners (although I'm aware cheap furniture now comes with plastic ones - less weight)

Not to rain on your parade, but I doubt you'd be able to fit all that inside a laptop case - no matter how much you hack it. I'd wait until you get the components before thinking about getting a dead laptop. I don't see the point, really. You'd be much better off making a custom case.

Certainly thinking its a tight squeeze, another option would be to enlarge the depth of the case without making it look ridiculous (adding dowel's around the edges and filling in the resulting gaps)

I seriously doubt my ability to make a good looking frankencase, latch assembly, matching up screen etc which is why cutting up a laptop is more desirable to me.

that'd involve purchasing a slim, plus the additional rare cable to allow a slim to connect to a network adapter and hard drive - so much easier but I've already gone and bought a fat plus being the one of the first people to make a fat ps2 portable and make the elusive ps2 laptop would be good.

However in the past few minutes I've been looking at my two ps2 cases (one dead, one working) and thinking frankencase - guts already fit in, cut out both 'ridge' sections and hinge them together would make a nice simple case - guess i'm developing a back up plan
