Smoke?

Smoke?

I finished with page 90 in the book. The part about connecting the transistor (thats on the electrical tape) to the LEDs on the PSOne screen, etc.

I then plugged back the speakers and plug in the power wall plug that came with the psone screen and there came smoke from the transistor!

This can't be normal. What's wrong here? Help!

Transistors (or any other small electronics component for that matter) smoke when you pump too much power through them. Are you sure you connected everything correctly?

yes. I used solid wire for this situation. I soldered one end of the solid wire to one end of the transistor. Then I took the rest of that solid wire piece and connected it to each positive led end. Then I used another piece of solid wire to connect all the LEDs negative ends and then took that end of that piece and connected it to the ground area.

And I soldered another solid wire to the other end of the transistor to that left lead of that 7805 thing on the back of the circuit (opposite side of screen)

what do you mean by "everything correctly?"

I always wanted to know how they get the smoke in those transistors. I know when the smoke comes out they don't work anymore!

Is it possible that instead of pulling from the low-voltage source you're still running power through the backlight inverter?

Oh man, well its not supposed to be a transistor that you connect to the LEDs. Its supposed to be a 10 ohm resistor. I hope you didn't fry your LEDs. Take a closer look at the book and make sure all the connections are right.
