GBC screen lighting

I know that baklighting a GBC cant be done, but I saw a tutorial where you open up the GBC, remove this black padding on the screen and the GBC screen stays lit...my question is has anyone done this and by removing the black foam padding does it have any negative effects either on the gameboy or perhaps your eyes?

Moding a GBC to have a backlight isn't impossible. You just have to know what your doing.

Taking the metal backing off the LCD is the WORST!

Go slow, or you WILL break the LCD glass.

Ya, bend the corners of the metal away from the glass first, then when you pry it off it won't create pressure points on the glass. I didn't bend the corners and broke a corner of the screen, but it still worked (I was very lucky, the screen could have easily been killed).

Thanks for the advice, is there any way to do with when the glass is on with glue?

I actually can't remember how mine were held on, I took the backing off a GBC and GBA screen but that was about 2 years ago.

You could see the light through the screen, but I think it washed out the colors too much to play with it like that.

Worm light sucks, if you get it close enough to the screen to light it up properly it is in the copulate way.

I have an awsome wormlight. It's very bright and works great... But I barely play GBC since I just download roms to my GBAMP and play it on DS.

How exactly would this be done; LEDs, soldering, tearing away some plastic?

And of course, the screen part. Pull the foam off and anything else? I have three gameboy colors, though I'd prefer not to ruin any of them.
