I just bought a used(working) gameboy color and want to put the guts inside my gameboy classic housing. I am a TOTAL NEWB how can I go upon doing this and not ruin anything?

i want my original gameboy to play GBC games and regular gameboy games in color, so I would need to take the internal components of a GBC and put them inside a classic gameboy case...is that not correct?

That's exactly what he said...

One quick point, isn't the screen on the GBC bigger than the GBO? If so you'd need to make a new screen cover thing out of perspex. Except for that it's rather easy. Just need to solder the battery connections togeather(only use 2 batteries though or KAPLOW!) and rewire the controls and maybe the cart slot.

the screens are the same size, the GBO has a contrast setting wheel and the GBC does not, I'm new to all this soldering/wiring etc., if anyone has a tutorial, or diagram or anything it'll be helpful

This mod idea is two things:

1. Simple
2. Awesome

If you can't get any info on this I'd say just open it up and see what you can see then try to do it yourself.

The power supply is the only thing that you should really be looking at, if you have any interest in using an AC adapter with it you would want to exchange the one from the Color (at least that seems like the simplest solution to me, but I'm a n00b much like, so don't take my advice as gospel truth).

Good luck, seems like a really cool mod (though I'm a longtime Gameboy fan, and love seeing Game Boy mods).

Also seems to me like there would be a lot of empty space there, which I'm sure you already realized, and you'd have to clip off the thing that holds the Game Boy games in place, shouldn't be too hard of a thing to do.

yes I thought of that, couple things that also come to mind...the speaker..the classic gameboy has a louder speaker than the color, would it be possible to still use four batteries for more "juice"?

@bubbles: you can just edit your post, no need to post twice.

You should probably practice soldering and desoldering. Find a working old electronic thing (vcr) Open it up. remove some components and put them back on. turn it on and if it works congratulations you can solder.

yes, but be careful how you wire them. If you use four in serial it will be double the voltage and could fry the game boy. If you wire them in parallel you get double the amps (twice the battery life.)

ok project_failure, let me get this straight, I get one wire and run it through connecting it to each of the + of the 4 batteries and another wire to the - of the 4 batteries?

and the speaker, can I just leave in the speaker on the classic gameboy and wire that to the GBC components?

I've noticed that the "post edited" doesn't appear if you edit within about 5 minutes. It is fairly annoying for someone to consistently double post within a few minutes of the first post.

ok, i tried messing around with a GBP i had, im not as good as I thought I was...i;m gonna go out on a limb here....would anyone want to do this for me?

If I were doing this mod I'd simply just put my GBC in the GBO shell. Then just mod the shell to turn on without it needing to have that slot in the game.
