Does anyone here speak japanese?

I would really like to learn, but don't know where to start. (I might attempt to get a tutor to teach me, but I might just try and teach myself.) Does anyone have any online resources?

I know one or two members that do. I know some, but not a whole lot. I started with just a kana/kanji book, but didn't really start learning until earlier this year when my friends and I stumbled upon a japanese quiz game on my MAME cabinet and found a transliteration quiz. After we learned a lot from there we started using http://www.nihongoresources.com/ for harder quizzes and grammar work.
Anyways, good resources help, but I think studying with friends in a group can help just as much or even more

Well, I'm more worried about speaking it then reading it or writing it now. So far I've learned that instead of a structure like
noun/verb/object
it is
noun/object/verb

I looked through some thing on the about.com page, but when it came to verbs, it was somewhat lacking. It says that there are no plural forms, and no gender based forms (which are nice), but it didn't say anything about the other forms.. (I take spanish in school, so im talking about the you, we, I, forms) Do they not have that?

Pick up a copy of Rosetta Stone (In the proper language, obviously). Thats ALL you need.

Considering how easy it is, its not that expensive, either.

It's not really a specific noun as much as the general subject.

I thought it was all a bunch of bull.. What language did you use? Are you extremely fluent? How long did it take you?

The Pimsleur audio CD course is great if you want to learn on the go. I've tried the Rosetta Stone stuff but I just didn't get anything from it.. my friend on the other hand seems to like it.

Take a look for a tv series called "Lets Learn Japanese 2007". It might help you after you advance a little. Honestly, you're never going to become fluent by just using these materials. You will NEED to do some textbook work in the future. But certainly, its a great way to start! The 1st thing you want to do is memorize the Hiragana and Katakana, and then start on the first hundred or so Kanji.

My school is a language college so I get free lessons so I been learning Japanese after school, I have learned quite a lot from it all so I will probably go back next year but I'll have to pay for it! For Rosetta Stone it really depends on the person, download the trial first to see if its for you.

Spanish. About a month. Sadly, I've forgotten most of it. I know enough to reply to foreign replies I get on deviantART.

I'll use it again. Probably for Japanese and Chinese. Seeing as I would like to go to both.
