I managed to get my hands on a SEGA Power Base Converter today. Basically this plugs into the Genesis, and allows you to play Master System games, both in cartridge and Card format, and can also adapt the 3-D Glasses for some games. I did some reading on it, and some people say that it can only be used with the 1st generation of the Genesis, as the case won't fit any other renditions. i made short work of that.

This is the case as purchased.

The internals with the case removed. The case is WAY too big for the guts, there's tons of wasted space.

This is the bottom, vertical board, which I found slides into it's own port, identical to the actual SMS cartridge port on top, even the same numbers printed on it.

The vertical board disconnected. Very interesting as the bottom is for genesis and the top is for SMS. I'm not exactly sure what the big metal piece is in the middle, but my guess is that it gives the baord structural support for when it gets mashed into the Genesis.

The converter placed in my 2nd gen Genesis (which I got for Christmas in 1993. Ah, memories).

The whole thing up and running. As you can see, I bought the Hang-On/Astro Warrior cart to test it with. It works great. The B and C buttons act as the 1/Start and 2 buttons respectively.
I hope you enjoyed the pics and descriptions. This has "Fun Portable Project" written all over it, so I thought I'd share. Also, this proves to any skeptics that the Converter works with the other Genesii too.

You know what? If you have the time and patience, you can make a Power Base Converter yourself! I did, and here's the result: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.ph ... +ConverterGoldenfrankO wrote:I should probably get one of these. I have a version 1 Genesis.
