Projection TVs

Post by gamer2 »

I know that Projection TVs have gone out in esscence but I found a Projection TV for free today. The only problem with it is that the very bottom of the screen is completely black and there are vibrating lines on the bottom of the screen. I figured the tube on the bottom was damaged but wanted a second opinion.

What do you think, and how much should it cost to fix?

How much of the screen is messed up? If its not too much, I'd say just leave it, unless the rest is pretty junky and you have another tv of comparable goodness.
One thing you can do with projection tvs is make them into projectors. A guy I know got one for free that had a busted mirror, so he hung the projector part about 5 feet away from a wall and about in the middle of the wall height and with wise. So he got a ~120" screen for free. It looks ok with lights on (not watchable, but visible), the room needs to be fairly dark for it to look its best. Only problem is the big box hanging in the middle of the room, but you could probably remove a good deal of casing if you wanted.

The way it seams is that a small part of the bottom is completely black and the lines on the screen are what should be displayed at the bottom, but its scattered all over the bottom half of the screen.

Could you take a picture of it? Have you tried the screen's other inputs to see if its not just a dirty connection or something?

I have tried Coax, Composite and S-video, all do it.

I need some AAAs before I can take a picture.

It probably wouldn't be worth it to buy to fix it. Just go buy another one. But I'm no sure on the cost.

my friend found a projection tv in the trash once. It was getting three channels when he found it (which I think were the red blub channel, the green blob channel, and the blue blob channel). He almost fixed it but he broke some kind of glass something or another inside.

Next time I see him I'll ask again how he almost fixed it and see if any of what he did applys to your problem
