Want to make Portable N64 *NO EXPERIENCE*

Hi, I'm a Nintendo fanboy. I have 2 N64's, so I came across this website and thought, why not give making a portable one a chance? I can still keep my nostalgia and maybe have something to show off to my friends!

I have no experience whatsoever in this field. I'm just inspired to do something like this. Can somebody lead me to what I should do and tell me what I need to undergo a project like this? Do you think I should even try this as I am a total n00b?

From what I have heard (haven't made one personally) it is pretty difficult as the Mobo likes to die. Also if you want info on how to do this use the search function.

Sorry I phrased that question wrong.
I meant the kind of charger you can use with the DS so you can charge it in the night or something and have it use a rechargeable battery that is integrated into the system.

I seem to be confusing myself as well as other people with this, sorry. You know the kind of thing the DS has?
Where you charge it, and it just lives for like 8 hours afterwards?

Before I get myself involved in something I have no knowledge in doing, I better get everything I need first. Can somebody please provide me with some kind of list of things I need so I can go get all of it now before the summer when I will get started?

And btw, I'm a total n00b at building things. I have tough times with LEGOs with instructions. Is this going to be reaaaaally difficult?

It will be hard as hell. But don't let that get you down because it CAN be done.

Don't expect to pay less than $300 for your first time. I'm not saying it will cost $300 (Total cost of my portable is gonna be ~$250). I'm saying play it safe, and don't budget to low. This is about as inexpensive as it is easy: Its not.

Thanks for the honest input, and the helpful advice. It definitely seems like a cool idea. I can't wait to be done with this and be talking to one of my friends who starts talking about how awesome Mario Party is on the DS and I'll whip out my portable n64 and be playing the original.

Bacteria's progress log is the best guide. Theres not really any step-by-step how to, since most of the stuff depends on personal preference and available resources.

I was going for a kind of dreamcast controller kind of thing.
Are the d-pad and the Z button necessary?

No way it'll be small enough to reach the shoulder buttons where they are. And the Z button is necessary, the L and d-pad just depend on if you like any games that need them.
