For all the moderators

Post by that's me »

Hello. I have just now signed up to this forum after simply being content to read all the wonderful information for the past 3 or so years. And I just want to say how sad it makes me to see how downhill this place has gone. I used to be so impressed by how friendly everybody was. Now, the moderators seem to be power hungry mongers who have a vendetta against certain members. I don't see how you justify what is spam and what isn't. Personally, I find almost everything in Forum 42 to be spam. But isn't that the point of Forum 42? To have a place for just random threads to be made? How can all of you not consider a topic discussing an upcoming movie, or a thread with the sole purpose of discussing cats (devil creatures that they are) to be spam? Is it just because you have no problem with the creators of those threads? Seriously guys: GROW UP!

"The reason this forum came to be was not for you to put down or be put down. Respect is a completely necessity here, and anyone that decides not to show proper respect does not belong here." This is from your own rules. Amazing how none of you seem to follow this rule yourselves. Certain members you are just mean and cruel to. So I guess that all of you should leave this forum because you don't belong here. I'm just simply stating what has already been said.

"As for spamming, every member here should have a general knowledge of what spam is and what the effects of spam are." This is so vague it's not even funny. Maybe if you made a more specific definition here, you wouldn't come across so much of what YOU consider to be spam. Since when is a "post your typos" a spam thread? Last I checked, there are lots of threads like this! For example: Show us yourself; I need some music. Suggest me some!; Your Video Game Collection; and especially Brawl Snapshots! And wow! Even as I am typing this up, there is a new thread by one of your own moderators that totally fits in here, too: Summer Vacation!

"Too clear ideas up, the word blogging is derived from the digital web log (blog) and is defined as the act of creating topics that no one can discuss. Please do not post threads of your day at school, what you found under the sofa, or how you scraped your knee skateboarding." And yet, there is the cat thread that started out as: "I just found 4 1-week old kittens and their dead mother in my shed. Discuss kittens in this thread." Wtf?

I know this thread will be locked or maybe even deleted. And I wouldn't be surprised if I get permanently banned (even though the rules specifically say you have to get 2 warnings before any banning happens). But I don't care. Something has to be said.

That thread was posted while the majority of the moderating team (myself included) was most likely asleep, you cant expect us to have split second response times for every single thread that pops up. If you have a problem with how we handle things as moderators please be specific with whom you have a problem and for what reason, just vaugly slandering the entire mod team is not the best way to go around doing things with your FIRST POST. Topics in f42 get locked on our best judgement, its up to us to decide what is span and isnt. if a certian members threads get locked its not because of some personal vendetta against them its because THEY WONT QUIT POSTING STUPID TOPICS.

Dern, This reminds me of Plamertech's mom thread and Plamertech's my sister did it thread.

But the poster makes a few points that I kinda agree with. The poster must also understand that this isn't some cooperate site. We're a bunch of laid back, tech buffs that like video games. And we post and make topics on stuff that we think might bring interest to the rest of the community. If this poster has a problem with all that. Then this poster needs to leave this place. Or accept the fact that's the way we are here.

We don't have a 'vendetta' against anyone. Users bring it upon themselves when they do stupid crap.
I don't see how you justify what is spam and what isn't. Personally, I find almost everything in Forum 42 to be spam. But isn't that the point of Forum 42? To have a place for just random threads to be made?
There's a BIG difference between off-topic DISCUSSION and stupid horsecrap. Spam is garbage like this thread, which offers no basis for discussion. It's just a "Post your X" thread.
How can all of you not consider a topic discussing an upcoming movie, or a thread with the sole purpose of discussing cats (devil creatures that they are) to be spam? Is it just because you have no problem with the creators of those threads? Seriously guys: GROW UP!
We don't consider them spam because they start a conversation where people are constructive and share thoughts and opinions. Spam threads only conjure drivel.

And you signed up to a forum you clearly don't know very well, just to yell at the staff (composed of members who have been more or less active for years) and criticize their actions? Who really needs to grow up here?
"The reason this forum came to be was not for you to put down or be put down. Respect is a completely necessity here, and anyone that decides not to show proper respect does not belong here." This is from your own rules. Amazing how none of you seem to follow this rule yourselves. Certain members you are just mean and cruel to. This is the real world, not a PBS kid's show where everyone's happy and nice to each other no matter what. Everyone gets respect when they join. The actions and behavior they express after that point determine how much respect they gain or lose.
Very simply, those threads involve topics people around here are generally interested in. "Post your Typos!!" doesn't.
Because they're kittens. Again, it started a discussion. "Post your X!!1" doesn't have that potential, and wasn't well-received and went off-topic really quickly.
I know this thread will be locked or maybe even deleted. And I wouldn't be surprised if I get permanently banned (even though the rules specifically say you have to get 2 warnings before any banning happens). But I don't care. Something has to be said.
I still have no idea why you signed up just to rake the staff over the coals and nitpick about their practices. The point is that there are people who seriously need to quit posting topics that don't fall into the general interest of the people here.

I honestly don't care if you like how we do business or not. All I know is, we're not the mafia and there are members around here who are pushing the limits of what we feel is acceptable behavior.

Epic troll?

Basically, don't be stupid, and if something you do is obviously annoying people, stop it. If you don't like it, leave.

Used them before (I never claimed to be a completely innocent person. Heheh... Those were the good o' days, though. When people could take a joke without getting they're panties in a twist). Do the research before saying its BS.

It _IS_ bullcrap. IP Cloners? Seriously? The internets don't work that way. I mean, I guess I could see it working if you wanted to clone an IP of somebody with the same provider of yours, and then you either keep de/reconnecting till you have the right IP or break into your providers central, and hack their computers with a hammer.

Proxies, yes. Cloning IPs? No.

This is EXACTLY why people are getting annoyed with you. You just completely derailed a topic over some silly little detail nobody else really gives a crap about.

Closed before it gets even worse.

DON'T PM ME ABOUT THIS. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.
